Removing scratches from stainless handgun slide

I recently bought a stainless steel hand gun from my uncle and it has two sharp scratches on the side of the slide. How can I remove these scratches?

1000 grit silicon carbide paper (get it from any place which sells automotive paint supplies). Use wet. Rub, rub, rub.

I suggest buffing afterward as well if you are after a nice mirror finish.
