Refinishing brass cabinet hinges

I am remodeling my kitchen and want to keep the old hinges for my cabinets but they are stained, they are English Brass, I want to clean them but they seem to have a finish and nothing seems to work, if cleaning is not possible is there anything that can be done? like painting them? is there anything to give them the antique look again? thank you for you help.

First off, get them nice and shiny, get all the previous stain, vinegar [in bulk on eBay or Amazon], whatever off of the hinges. Once they are taken down and you can get them bright and shiny, I found a new patina recently, hydrogen peroxide 3%) [affil links] and table salt. You will get a nice green/brown patina on the metal (if you do it right). Once it gets the color you want protect it with a clear spray on lacquer.

Good Luck
