Hard coating for Zinc die-cast part?

I have a Zinc Alloy diecast part. It mates with a powder coated surface in use. The alloy is so soft it basically acts as a pencil and marks the surface of the white powder coat and looks unsighlty. Changing the Alloy is not an option right now.

Anyone know of a coating process which will "seal" the Zinc surface and give me something hard which will not mark the other surface. I will even consider a sputtering process.

The surface in question is inside a .125" x 0.250" slot. There is pretty much an interferance fit so powder coat would be too thick for my appplication.

Any ideas?

Any metal you plate onto zinc diecast would be harder than the diecast; this might aggravate the condition. However if you just zinc plate over the zinc diecast, it might serve to smoothen out the r.a. on the surface and might help a bit. You might want to look at teflon coating the diecast if you have the tolerance.
