-----Current Density Confusion
I am confused about what does the Current Density Specify for plating. I understand what Current Density is. When current densities are specified, s it the current being applied to the area of the workpiece being plated or the other/inert electrode?
Sincerely,

Hi Chris. Ideally it would be specified as cathodic current density when referring to the part being plated and anodic current density when referring to the other electrode (which may or may not be inert). But if not otherwise stated, the reference is almost always to cathodic current density. Just for general interest, the anode area, in most processes, is specified as somewhere between equal to the cathode area and twice the cathode area.
