-----944 engine Nikasil coated with OEM Pistons TIN Coated: is this DANGER?
I am considering purchasing a Porsche 944 rebuilt engine with Nikasil Plating of the cylinders. New Porsche OEM pistons were installed. These are Aluminum with a TIN coating. Will I have problems with scoring of the cylinder walls due to the hardness of the TIN? What type of rings should I hope were used? I assume that OEM rings were used, which I don't know what this would be from a 944 engine.
Thanks,

I haven't seen a cylinder plating line in a while. The last I saw was for tin plating though, and I don't know why that should have to change because of nickel silicon carbide plated cylinders. But in those days cylinders were plain iron and piston rings were chrome plated, and I don't know what the appropriate plating material is for rings that run against nickel silicon carbide.
