Etching solution for nickel-iron

(1999)

We are looking for a nickel-iron etching solution. We are currently processing the parts with muriatic acid but are having problems with corrosion after a few hours.

Are you etching nickel-iron to roughen up the profile of the surface? What process follows the etch? Do you mean that the etching solution fails after a few hours of use, or that the parts corrode after a few hours in the solution?

If the problem is the former, how many square meters of work is processed per liter of solution before the problem occurs?

Best regards, Tom

Hi, Sirs:

I have similar problem of etching Ni-Fe, but it's permalloy. Do any body can give any suggestion about the etching solution? Actually, I am dealing with the combination of hydrochloride and nitric acid. Thank you so much. Harrison

Hi,

I want to etch nickel based alloy but I can't find an appropriate etching agent. I have used nital, and also used acid ferric chloride but neither of them has worked. So if you please inform me with the best etching agent that would be appropriate for the nickel alloy.

Yours sincerely,

you can try nitric acid 1: 3 where 1 is nitric and 3 is water ,
should buy nitric acid 40% (commercial)
temperature 38 degree
am assuming you are using dual jet etching machine for cutting Iron
