Chroming and coating model plastic parts

I am looking at the possibility of coating plastic with chrome and wonder if there are any books available to help me with getting started. I am also looking at machinery or equipment to set up a small operation to do model plastic parts Regards Mike

Hello. gentlemen. There are several different ways to apply a shiny metallic-looking coating on plastic.

James' need is for a truly robust, excellent adhesion coating that can withstand the thermal cycling typical of exterior automotive use. This would be real copper-nickel-chrome plating. Our FAQ: "Introduction to Chrome Plating" will give you a quick intro, and "Standards & Guidelines for Electroplated Plastics" will offer you the in-depth answers.

Michael's model parts are a different thing, probably doable with rather inexpensive vacuum metallizing of aluminum. This is an inexpensive commodity coating applied even to party balloons, but vacuum metallizing equipment may be expensive. Good luck.
