Why have I got a metal allergy again after 5 years?

2004

Hi,

I have in the last couple of days got red patches around my body where metal is in my clothing. I know what these are because I had them years ago then they disappeared. It's a allergic reaction to metal. It doesn't hurt or itch its just there. I have search the web to find out why after so long have I got it again because nothings changed. I wear the same clothes, jewelry I seem to get a burst every 5 years or so. I was born with eczema and this seems to come and go. I just find it weird how can things lay so dormant. does anyone have a idea why? or suffers from this type? everyone seem to have it all the time!

Metal allergies are quite common, but you do not say which metal(s) you are allergic to. I suggest you go to your GP and ask him for some advice and he may arrange for you to be tested to identify which ones you are allergic to. He can also prescribe some preparations to alleviate the symptoms. Unfortunately, it does not appear something that you "will grow out of", so the best treatment is to avoid getting in contact with the offending metals.

My mother suffers from the same condition..simple solution to stop it is coat the metal with epoxy or nail polish where it touches your body. She uses clear nail polish. Can't tell it's coated and the rashes go away. you have to re-coat it every so often but nail polish and epoxy are cheap. Now just hope your not allergic to something in one of those mixtures :)
