Chrome plating vs. Chrome dipping

Q. What is the difference between chrome plating and chrome dipping or is it the same?

A. Hi Thomas. Chrome is always applied through electroplating, which includes immersing the parts in a series of vats which include the chrome electroplating tank. Because of the "immersion" involved in this process though, people sometimes call it "chrome dipping", which conveys an image of dipping strawberries in molten chocolate and wheels in shiny molten chrome, which drives platers up the wall. There is no such process: chrome dipping and chrome plating are the same thing.

We have a pretty good article on line that I think you'll like: "Understanding Chrome Plating".

Good luck.
