Zinc clear passivation issues




Hello,

We are supplying sheet metal assembly to sun microsystem US their specification is metal to be CRS zinc coated with clear passivation. When we do this clear passivation at one of our plating vendor we are facing problem in inconsistency of colour and coating thickness. Can you help to get ideal process that will render us the consist colour and thickness one more issues that is noticed is the scratches that are seen is there any method to avoid seeing this scratches.

Dear Mohammed,

Following is process which shall be adopted to obtain the desired finish. De-oiling, buffing, alkaline degreasing, pickling, cyanide activation, cyanide zinc plating, 0.5% Nitric acid dip followed by passivation.
