About Tremclad rust paint I have used this product every year on the front railing of my home and every year same old thing rust and lots of it. I have even used a grinder on rail to remove all rust before putting on Tremclad this too did no good why does your product call its self rust proof when in fact it does not work. Thank you for your time would like too hear from you

I have no idea if anyone from Tremclad even reads this page, Judy. If you want a response from Tremclad, I think you need to take the time to write to their customer service department rather than a website that has nothing to do with them.

From a technical standpoint, though, no paint of any brand or type is the equivalent of applying a proper rust-deterring pretreatment before painting. Look for a rust-converter, primer, or something at your paint or auto store that says it is based on phosphoric acid. Application of this is not quite the same as a true iron-phosphate conversion coat, but it's on the right path. If you can remove the railings, a shop could strip, pretreat, and paint or powder coat them.

I have two railings leading from my kitchen to the back yard. They are rusting, and the paint is peeling. What is the easiest way to strip the paint, and once that is done, what is the best way to to prepare the railing for painting. Thank you very much.
