Difference between EDX and thickness gage readings

2004

We have sent some sample for EDX testing for our cadmium coating and found out that the coating thickness is lesser that what we have measured using coating thickness gage. The EDX measurement is 10 microns compare to the thickness gage which is 14 microns. My question:

1. Is there any difference in ready when we are using EDX and thickness gauges.
2. Is zero setting and then using plastic film thickness to verify the thickness gage suitable to check the cadmium plating thickness.
3. What is your recommendation to get the most accurate thickness reading of cadmium plating.

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

Yours Sincerely,

MD Rashid Masrukin
