Are the zinc alloys sensitive to hydrogen embrittlement during nickel plating

To increase the hardness of our component, they are plated with nickel. Until now, we use an electrochemical nickel plating. Now, we change the surface treatment and now we use chemical nickel plating. A problem appears: our zinc alloy casting parts show "blisters" after surface treatment. Could it be hydrogen embrittlement? Are the zinc alloys sensitive to hydrogen embrittlement? Thanks for your help

Catherine,

The blisters are usually due to incorrect pretreatment . Check your cleaning and activation cycle. No, Zinc alloys do not suffer from Hydrogen Embrittlement.
