Problems in zinc plating

Q. Dear Sir/s,

I am presently running a Zinc Plating Plant of small capacity to do Plating jobs on automobile components, engineering goods, etc. We are continuously facing problems in our plant. We are using the electroplating procedure for zinc plating. Sir I want to know about the following:
1. precautions to be taken while doing zinc plating;
2. what testing methods should I follow to check whether I need to change the chemicals in the tank;
3. measures to be taken for proper and effective plating.

A. Hi Hemant, I think you would need a book about zinc plating, and/or a visit of several days from a consultant. We try to answer plating questions here but sorry, there is no realistic way to address such a broad request for tutoring in a couple of paragraphs here. How would anyone know which of the 300 pages of a zinc plating book they should omit in their response? We'd be happy to try to answer highly specific questions, but your needs are too broad for an internet forum -- perhaps request a visit from your supplier as a first step?

Required further details would include: what kind of parts you are trying to plate, rack or barrel plating, type of plating solution, proprietary or home-brew, pretreatment sequence, post-treatment sequence, enunciation of one highly specific problem, etc. But please feel free to put "zinc plating problem" into the search engine and start reading.
