A previous response to obtaining a copy of QQ-Z-325 said that free downloads were available. The link brought me to a place that required a fee. Are there any sites that do not charge. It's not so much the cost as the inconvenience of submitting an expense report for a small amount of money.

Sorry about the bad information, On the other issue; trouble is, The efficiency of an organization is proportional to how easy it makes its petty cash payments :-)

A company credit card, in the hands of an employee that needs to find information, can be most valuable in the time it saves the employee who has to beg, borrow or steal information.

The answer to the wonderful opportunity to purchase documents, books and specifications right online is to ask management to make funds available in the form of a company credit card. Think about how you could be on your way to the next project if you could have paid $30.00 for the spec, and move on.

Tom is not criticizing anyone's company, but sharing my frustration with this "free" mil-specs site, which taxes we American small businesses to give our offshore competitors a free leg up on us. We fixed the link from our FAQ to the free place to get mil specs yet again (sigh), Mr. Slayton. Of all of the links on our site, trying to keep the address of the free area for mil specs current has been the most maintenance intensive over the years. Remember that these "free" services are usually provided by beltway bandits in collusion with bureaucrats, so you never know whether they keep breaking the links to steer the government towards spending money with them, or just out of incompetence :-)

By comparison, we've never once had to change a single link to any of the pay sources for specs!

It certainly proves yet again that the most expensive thing you'll ever get is something for free. But Tom's take on this subject never occurred to me before, but now that he's said it, it's so obvious that I could kick myself for not saying it first: a company isn't really in the Internet age if their employees don't actually have a way to actually take advantage of the resources and efficiencies it makes possible :-)
