Restoring Antique Wrought Iron Bed

Q. I have recently procured my childhood wrought iron bed that my father purchased at a farm equipment auction (oddly enough). It was painted sea green and after I moved away to college, sat in my parent's garage. I have fallen in love with it again and would like to restore it, but still maintain an "antiqued look." How do I remove the layers of paint, but still make it look like a rustic but elegant piece of old furniture?

Q. I am also interested in this subject. Especially how to recondition or purchase the link spring to a double sized bed. The iron frame is perfect, the link spring is badly warped.

Thanks

Q. I want to restore an antique iron bed frame. The headboard is round with rosettes figures--beautiful bed. It looks like the original color was turquoise and off white. Also what to do about a mattress and box frame. A regular box spring will not fit--the frame is too short.

A. If you're still looking for a mattress and box springs for your antique bed frame; you will probably have to take the precise measurements to a bedding company and have them make you a custom set to fit it. My friend had to have a custom set made when he purchased an antique bedroom set at an auction. It was on the high dollar side, but well worth it ! Good luck.
