Surface treatment for stenter chain elements

Presently we do Nickel plating on chain components of our product (hot air stenter) which is used in textile processing. the chain is exposed to 200 °C temperature continuously. We want advise for better surface treatment as nickel plating is costly and there are lot of rejections. Can we consider blackodising or plasma nitriding. Our main concern is resistance to corrosion and temperature and coating life of at least 5 years. Please suggest the process to suit these requirements.

Black oxiding offers no corrosion resistance. You have probably already identified the best surface treatment as nickel plating. The rejects are not a function of the nickel plating, they are a symptom of poor process control. Switching from one surface treatment to another is unlikely to do anything but worsen that problem.

You might want to look at Electroless nickel or Brass Plating over the bright nickel plating that you are doing.
