Choosing electro vs. mechanically deposited cadmium

If hydrogen embrittlement is removed as a concern, what are the reasons to choose one method over the other; ie, cost, delivery, availability, cleaning?

Mechanically deposited coatings will in general be thicker and therefore more corrosion resistant, but consequently more expensive. Mechanical coatings lack the bright consistent look of electroplating. I don't think there is a reason why the cleaning processes would have to be different. There are more electroplating shops than mechanical coating shops, so that might be an advantage.
