The main purpose of any blast system is to clean or remove an oxidized surface as a pretreatment for a coating. The more uniform the surface the more uniform the coating and/or appearance. Therefore, most blast systems are designed to use a uniform size and grade or blasting media and the system normally has a purge type dust collection system designed to remove a specific partical size as well as the material/oxide being worked. Media hardness and/or the crystal structure is normally the factor that determines how many times a material can be used; however, the hardness of the parts being worked and the air blast pressure also relates to that re-use. All of this means that we are talking about a variable factor.
