Applying foam balls for cleaning membranes
2003
Hi,
I am currently cleaning membranes for the metal finishing industry. I have used several chemical cleaners which have given favourable results. However, I am interested in using foam balls to aid in the cleaning. Can anyone tell me what size balls are used and are they isolated to the filtration module only or recirculated around the whole filtration equipment?
Thank you,

As far as I know, there is only one company that offers the foam ball method of scrubbing the membranes during the cleaning cycle, and they only offer this only on their 1" diameter tubular membranes. The balls are just slightly larger than 1" in diameter, and there are special fittings to insert and remove the sponge balls.
If your membrane supplier does not offer this as an option, then it is probably not an option that you can use to enhance the cleaning.
