TO PAINT OVER CHROME WITHOUT SCRATCHING THE CHROME

I HAVE A 2003 HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORCYCLE AND I SAW ON THE DISCOVERY CHANNEL THAT THEY WANTED TO PAINT OVER THE CHROME WITHOUT SCRATCHING UP THE CHROME. THEY HAD SOMETHING OUT THAT WAS NEW AND I DIDN'T GET TO FIND OUT WHAT IT WAS. IF POSSIBLE LET ME KNOW WHAT THEY USED IT'S SOMETHING NEW AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIND OUT WHAT IT WAS. BUT IT WAS A SPRAY CAN.

THANKS,

Hello Louis, I read your inquiry into painting over chrome. I am wanting to do the same thing, I was wondering if you got an answer to your question. If so, I would like to ask you What the product was, and where can I find it?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, it's unlikely that Louis is visiting this page with any regularity 3-1/2 years later, Perry. But we have 50,000 threads on line here, many of which are about painting over chrome, so patient work with the search engine should find something.

However, although I did not see the show in question, you should consider the possibility that Louis slightly misheard what was being offered. Painting over chrome with good adhesion has long been considered difficult and all of the auto companies worked long and hard at it. A skilled powder coating shop may be able to lightly sandblast to remove the chrome and scuff the underlying nickel to get reasonable adhesion.

Or, post the details of exactly what you are trying to do and you may get a more focused response.
