Need quick QC spot test for electrolytic vs. EN

I am looking for a chemical spot test that can determine whether a nickel plated deposit is electroless (has codeoposited P) or just pure nickel. I am not looking to determine the actual amount of P - just the presence.

I really doubt it.

A reverse etch with diluted hydrochloric (5%) in a small hidden area will turn out dark on EN and clear on electronickel. Anode must be clean graphite, 6V, room temp. and just a few seconds. This works well with commercial mid and high phos deposits, but might be difficult or misleading with very low phos deposits (below 5% P).

Thanks
