Copper ring just keeps tarnishing

Why is it when I polish my copper ring can I apply the solution again and still remove tarnish even though it is shiny and has no visible signs of tarnish. Also, what is the best way, if any, to prevent or slow this process.

Thank you,

If the tarnish was recently removed it will be thin, but it will not be non-existent. Some polishes probably do a better job of leaving an anti-tarnish on the surface than other polishes do. Anything helps, but benzotriazole [on eBay or Amazon] is an accepted tarnish fighter for copper.
