Leakage in degreasing plant

In one of the degreasing plants we use tetrachloroethylene as a degreasing agent . The tank frequently gets leaks due to corrosion . Can you give some remedial actions please.

This is a semi educated guess. You are getting water into your system which breaks off one or more of the chlorines which combines with the water to make hydrochloric acid. Check the pH of your tank and do an acid acceptance test. Your Vendor should be able to help you out with the methods.

Also, be sure that you are purchasing special vapor degreaser grade solvent. Tech grade solvents do not have stabilizers for acid acceptance. If you fail the acid acceptance test, you should pump out, repair your tank and start over with the right stuff.

We use tetrachloroethelene as our solvent . Can any one tell me how the acid acceptance test is done ? Will the test be done on the chemical or the water condensed ?

You test the condensed solvent. Ask your solvent Mfg for assistance.
