-----Removing lead paint from brass hinges
Dear Sirs:
I have some brass hinges that have based lead paint on them. I would like to remove this paint so that the true finish will show. Please advise what to use to remove this lead paint.
Thank you.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the amount of lead in lead-based paint is sufficient to materially affect what solvents will remove it. So I would start with mineral spirits ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] or turpentine ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil link] . While a caustic cleaner can remove paint, it could also etch the brass.
But before you start, check with your public hazardous waste center and see if they have any comments, suggestions, or restrictions based on the fact that the paint must be disposed of after it is removed.
