Aluminum Front Surface Mirror

What is the most economical method of preparing an aluminium surface for metallizing. I would like to apply a first surface mirror on an aluminium flat.

I'm not involved in the telescope industry so I'm only guessing, but I think you would mechanically polish the mirror, then electropolish it, then electroless nickel plate it, then vacuum metallize a pure aluminum coating onto it.
