E-nickel over hard chrome plating issues?

We are looking for information with regards to the application of electroless nickel to chrome plating. What types of problems can occur using this process to rebuild contact surfaces?

Thanks,

If you seek just general literature on the concept, Ray, the proceedings of the "Products Finishing" -sponsored "Electroless Nickel Conferences" have several papers on the subject, I'm sure.

You are in the plating business, so please tell us whether you are experienced in either chrome plating or electroless nickel or both so we can focus on the area where you feel you need help. Are you trying to rebuild some old parts but you do only electroless nickel, not chrome? Please get back to us with more detail. Thanks!

First of two simultaneous responses.

I think he wants to plate EN directly over hard chrome plating. It can be done.

Second of two simultaneous responses.

Yes we are familiar with both processes. We are attempting to extend the life of components that previously had a chrome repair performed on them.
We want to attempt to nickel plate the contact face with e-nickel without having to remove all of the previous chrome.

It can be done but the results are going to be fair at the most. Unless there is a VERY GOOD reason I would strip the old chrome and do it again. If it worked fine with chrome, why complicate your life? Forget about the EN. It's more expensive, more complicated, requires an additional Woods strike, special stripping chemicals if you screw it up, etc.
