Coating Suggestion for Heavy Machinery Track Rail
2003
I need a suggestion for a thin-film, corrosion resistant coating to be applied to the rub surface of a steel machinery track. A seven ton machine rolls along a track fabricated from I-beams which are exposed to the weather.
Previously applied zinc-rich paints disbond due to the crushing weight of the machine bearing down on the track. Oils and waxes won't work because the wheels will loose traction causing a potential safety problem.
What can you suggest to use as a coating that will handle the weight of the machine? Thank you.

Not cheap but you might consider calling a brush plating company to quote zinc brush plating. This process can be carried out on site and the coating is adherent and sacrificial to steel, so even in the case any portion is lost due to wear, it will continue protecting the surface.

The Idea of brush Plating is a good one I would recommend a more weather durable deposit such as copper, nickel, "chrome" all thin deposits deposited by brush plating.
