Copperware -- too much vinegar

I have some very expensive copperware that had darkened from oxidation after some use on the stove.
I tried using a salt and vinegar [in bulk on eBay or Amazon] mixture to restore the items, but ended up leaving it on too long.
The oxidation was mostly removed, but the result is terrible:
instead of the original mirror-like copper surface, I've got spots that are sort of milky (the cloth I used to wipe the vinegar off with turned greenish).

Is it possible to fix this?

I'll bet a proper polish like Brasso [on eBay or Amazon] will bring the shine right back. If not, you'll ned to buff it back to brightness.
