RAINBOWING IN ELECTROPHORETIC COATING

2003

SIRS,

AM EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH RAINBOWS ON SOME OF THE HEAVIER ITEMS THAT WE RUN THRU OUR ELECTROPHORETIC PAINT SYSTEM.WE RUN A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT SHAPES AND SIZES AND DO NOT SEE THE RAINBOW LIKE WE DO IN HEAVY SOLID BRASS PARTS. COULD THE ITEM GETTING HOTTER IN THE OVEN BRING THIS OUT? ALWAYS THOUGHT RAINBOWS WERE A RESULT OF TOO LITTLE PAINT.

THANKS FOR ANY INSIGHT YOU COULD PROVIDE.

Dear Craig,

You are right. The most probably you are putting too little paint onto surface. The rainbow effects mainly occurs on the thin layer electrophoretic painted surface.
