Will baking revert trivalent chrome to hex

Several of our customers are switching from systems containing hexavalent chrome to systems containing trivalent chrome. Under what conditions will a system containing trivalent chrome oxidize to hexavalent chrome? will a high bake, 10 minutes at 500 F, cause this reaction?

Hi, Robert. No, it will not cause oxidation of the chromate to hexavalent, but it will destroy any exposed chromate, and possibly the painted chromate as well. There are many threads on this site about that issue; using the search term "trivalent hexavalent chromate" and a good deal of patience will reveal them. Good luck.
