Graining specification

Due to inconsistencies in the grained panels that we buy, I need to quantify our graining requirements. Is there a de facto industry standard for "fine", "medium", "course" etc.? Do these callouts equate to something measurable and defined, like AA or Ra? What is the proper method for calling out graining?

I am not aware of a universal standard;
however, to my knowledge most surface finishes are specified by RMS/Rq.

Grain patterns are normally specified by the abrasive belt grit to be used such as 60,80, 120 etc.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
