High temp powder coating pretreatment

(1998)

have experienced problems with complete delamination of powder coating on cold rolled steel after heating to 650 F.

Pretreatment used is 7 stage iron phosphate. Is anyone aware of a better pretreatment for powder coating cold rolled that can withstand elevated temperatures.

Dear Patrick, I believe I have a solution to your paint delamination problem. What is happening is the phosphate under the paint is breaking down. You will have to go to a non phosphate treatment. Chemetall Oakite has 2 products that have worked in this type of application. They are UltraSeal and ChemSeal 3620 C. Regards,

For applications at 650f powder coating may not be the best choice no matter the pretreatment. You may want to consider a ceramic coating.
