A. That's very broad, Mr. Peru, filling chapters in books about soldering. But if you can provide some info specific to your own situation, I think it's very likely that a reader can help you with athe specific problem you are encountering without writing 40 pages:-)
Thanks.

Please advise how to check/identify dry soldering.
Thanking you.

Hi Mohan.

Let's start with the socket: is it tin plated, silver plated, gold plated, electroless nickel plated, or something else? Is it made of brass, beryllium copper, or phosphorous bronze? Is the solder lead-free? What flux is being used?

"Dry solder" may mean different things to different readers. To me it means the mottled crystalline look which results when something moves during the critical seconds while the solder is cooling. If you're certain that there is no movement, then lack of cleanliness, and persistent heat after the flux has been consumed are two additional problems. I'm sure readers would like to help, but more data probably must be supplied first. Thanks!

A. Hi, Vinod. I'm no soldering expert, but perhaps the most basic principle is that components must not move during the critical second or two while the solder is cooling. Since you are doing manual soldering with an iron rod are you sure that the parts are firmly held in place rather than relying on the operator to hold them still? If someone is trying to hold the components in place, cold solder will remain a common problem.

Can atmospheric problems cause dry solder?

Q. Q. We are doing manual soldering of PVC insulated copper wires (0.20 mm CSA) on copper parts by preheating the copper base and using soldering iron with solder wire dia of 0.8 mm having Sn (60) / Pb (40) with flux content of 2.2%
We are recently facing a lot of dry solder issues in spite of strong process control and 100% manual pull test of wires after soldering. Is there any atmospheric effect on solder joint after soldering which can cause this issue?

Wave soldering causes dry solder problem

Q. My company is a buzzer manufacturing unit. We are facing dry solder problems. When we check, pieces are okay at that time ... but when we pass at wave soldering stage, after wave soldering the buzzer has no sound or a low sound. Please advise us; it is a very serious issue in company. Please help me to resolve the problem.
