-----Silver Plating of superconductors
--
I have a question. I am trying to perform a silver electrodeposition over a YBa2Cu3O7 bulk superconductor. I have started with a cyanide based solution but instead of silver deposition a degradation of the sample was observed, mainly because (I guess) the reduction of the copper.
My question is if anybody knows anything published with those materials or similar?
Thank you in advance,
Yours sincerely,

Ernest,
High Tc YBCO superconductor is a semiconductor or ceramic material at ambient temperature. I believe it is pretty difficult to directly electrodeposit metal on its surface. During electrodeposition, as you know, metal ions in solution need to gain electrons on cathode surface. In your case, the copper oxide in YBCO will preferentially be reduced to copper metal instead of silver ion reduction. To deposit a layer of silver on YBCO, I suggest you think about CVD or PVD. I believe both PVD and CVD are feasible to achieve your goals without damaging the YBCO properties.
