Removing powder coating and leaving the chrome underlay intact

Is it possible to remove powder coating from a bike, and to also leave the chrome intact.

It surprises me that chrome plating would be underneath powder coating, by which I am implying that what you think is chrome plating may not be. Anything is possible but it would probably be difficult to remove powder coating from chrome. Chrome is very thin (millionths of an inch) and is neither acid nor alkali resistant, whereas the powder coating is a hundred times thicker, and may not be readily soluble in simple materials like turpentine on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . But you could try.
