Hard-Anodized Cookware Coating

2003

Dear sir/madam:

I was given as a gift a hard-anodized aluminum pot. I was wondering what is the standard thickness of the coating on hard anodized cookware and how resilient it is, since I normally don't use aluminum cookware for health reasons.

Thanks,

The coating can be non-destructively measured with an eddy-current gauge, but a good bet is that it's over .001" and not over .002" thick. The thing is, though, the coating is aluminum oxide. If you really must swear off aluminum, trade it in for cookware with a stainless steel skin and aluminum core.

Please advise if there is any FDA or ASTM Standard for Hard Anodizing using in cooking pot?
