How can I remove iridium coating from a helmet face shield?

Q. I have an iridium-coated motorcycle helmet face shield from which some of the iridium has been either abraded or dissolved, (don't know which). Is there is a fluid I can use, (alcohol, kerosene, naptha, etc.), to remove the remaining iridium coating, leaving a clear (undamaged) shield. I have no access to plating processes. Any guidance will be appreciated.

Iridium is a very inert metal related to platinum. It can only be dissolved in concentrated acids. I suspect what you have is not iridium but something similarly named.

Sorry! Finishing.com is temporarily Read-Only.
Ted Mooney is retiring but I have several offers to take it over.
We're working hard to make sure we find it the best new home.
