Metal finishing Q&As since 1989

Electro-lac difficulties

Q. Sir,

I use a PU lacquer plant which has been imported from switzerland. After using it for a couple of years now it is posing me problems. When dye gold is deposited on the metal(95% brass), it seems that everything is fine . After that the piece is dried in the dryer & then inserted in the oven. It is baked for 25 minutes at 150 degrees temperature. What now happens is all the shining which the piece promised before going to the oven has been history. Instead now the piece has turned black. What can possibly be wrong in this case?
