Proving platinum plating on gold

Dear Sir,

Please advise me how to explain my customer for platinum plating over gold ring. My customers are telling me that I'm doing nickel plating and taking money of platinum plating but nickel will not give like platinum plating shine.

It can be proven with an X-Ray Fluorescence machine, but maybe a spot test will suffice. Because people with nickel allergies are concerned about jewelry with nickel in it, these nickel spot test kits are now readily available as a consumer item .
