Gold Plating Solution Required

(1998)

We are retailers of Pearls Jewellery . Our product comes from the manufacturer with Gold Polish . Unfortunately inspite of the design being very good the product tends to get discolored within a span of 2 to 3 months of usage . We are trying to find a solution where we could gold plate the product in house without dismantling the jewellery . The product we have are all in Pearls , semi precious stones and are normally strung in Nylon / Silk threads .

Can you please recommend a good plating solution to our problem .

Thanks

Dear Mr Kulkarni ,

When you say the product discolours after 2 - 3 months , is that "on the customer" or in your shop?

If it is "on the customer" then I suggest that there are probably at least 2 problems ,

1 ) the Gold layer is much too thin .

2 ) the "Barrier layer" between the base material & the Gold plate is of insufficient thickness .

There is no effective way of replating the gold without taking the strands apart , even "brush Plating" would only get to some of the surface area .

I suggest that you contact your supplier and demand that he plates to a reasonable specification and arrange for some independent testing to be carried out , on an ongoing basis to ensure the goods are of acceptable quality .

I would be glad to help with a complete specification , contact me directly for more information and assistance.
