-----Chromate Conversion Coating - Environmental Issues
Looking for some help! I am currently doing a masters degree in packaging technology and I am looking for information regarding the environmental issues associated with Chromate Conversion Coating. I would be grateful if anyone could help.
Thanks,

The issue is actually very simple, Mr. Dickson. Chromate conversion coatings are the least expensive, safest (in terms of product function), most reliable method of avoiding white rust on plated components, as well as aluminum, while maintaining conductivity and minimal dimension change. But they leave toxic, possibly carcinogenic hexavalent chromate on the item in question, so will be outlawed in most cases.
