Corncob vs. walnut Shell for tumble finishing?

Walnut Shell blasting media

I have just bought a tumbler. I was wondering what kind of media is better corncob or walnut shell abrasive [affil links]. Also I have this Iosso case cleaner -- should I use this in addition to tumbling or do I not need it anymore.

Hi, Travis. Both are widely used and it depends on what substrate you are treating and what finishing procedure you are trying to do. Walnut shells are a much harder media than corncobs. I think the walnut shell is more often for blasting and the corncob more often for tumbling.

Sorry, I'm not real familiar with Iosso case cleaner, but you should have some liquid involved in the tumbling, either the Iosso or treated corncob. Good luck.
