Stop-off (masking) for chrome plating on plastics

Q. We are a third tier supplier of OEM automotive parts. We spray paint stop-off lacquers on ABS and ABS/PC plastics prior to the chrome plating process. Sometimes the chrome over runs the stop-off paint and causes reject. What other then low DFT could cause this problem. The paint needs to be at least 1/2 mil thick when dry. Can over-etching or over-activation cause this. What else and how to determine it?

A. There exist two different ways for masking. Enthone Omi had a product (stop-off is a polymer and you can apply by spray); other way is paint (Red Spot Paint had this kind of paint, I don't remember the name but you can get the information by internet.

I hope this information helps you.
