Salt spray ratings

I have heard of ratings for Salt spray / CASS tests but have no clear idea. I want to implement it for Hard chrome and Ni-Cr plated components. Where can I get the details? Any book / website OR a specific ASTM no.

A good starting point will be MFSA's "Quality Metal Finishing Guides" for "Hard Chrome Plating" and "Nickel-Chrome Plating" (www.mfsa.org). They explain what to look for in your testing program and what test corrosion test procedures to use.

The ASTM spec for salt spray cabinets is ASTM B117 but, again, I don't think that will prove to be a good starting point.

You may want to get a copy of ASTM B633 or other similar evaluation standards. Neither ASTM B117 or ASTM B368 will give sufficient information regarding rating. That is usually contained in the material standards.
