How can I restore the brightness on my Zinc/Nickel finish

2003

HELP!

I had my Brake Rotors and Brake Caliper Brackets Zinc Plated and finished up with Nickel plating. They looked AWESOME! Nice and bright...for about 6 months.. Then I had the dumb idea to use one of those Caustic Brake dust cleaners on the wheels.. bad idea..It stained the plating and made it look dull and grey...

My question...If I chemically ruined the finish.. Can I chemically repair it back to the original brightness? Other then removing them and having the plating done all over.. What options do I have to restore the finish?

I don't think there's anything you can do chemically, but I'd try buffing them back to a shine before I gave up and had them replated.
