About the blue color of copper sulphate
Why when copper sulphate [on eBay or Amazon] solution is filtered does the filter paper appear blue not colourless?

Hi, Kristi. Try running an abundance of water through the filter paper after that and see what color the paper is then. It may give you enough of a clue. Good luck.

Copper sulphate, both solid and in solution, is usually blue. When you pass the copper sulphate solution through the filter paper, does the paper get wet or stay dry? What do you think has happened to the solution to make the filter paper blue? If you let the solution evaporate to dryness, what colour will the dry copper sulphate be? Let us know your answers so we can see how your thought patterns and skills at observation and deduction are developing.

Another hint-- run some coffee or strong tea thru the same filter. Gee it is no longer white--Why? Now tear a filter apart and look at the edges under a microscope or a very strong magnifying glass. You should be able to see why it is a filter and not a strainer.

I am doing my Chemistry homework and need to say why we filter copper sulphate solution. I have looked all over the internet and can't find an answer, then it dawned on me: internet seriously is taking over my life. If I need help with my homework I ask the laptop, not my parents, if I want to talk to a friend, I go on facebook or skype, not text or write to them. If I'm bored I play on the laptop, not with my little sister. If I want to listen to some music, I go on youtube, not play cds. If I want to do my homework, I type it out on word, not write it down. Do you see what I mean? I'm going to spend more time with others and socialising than spend all my time alone on the internet. I suggest you do the same. Think. Thank you.
