Black Zinc Finish / Antique Pewter Finishes / Clear Urethanes

Can any one help me find a satin or flat clear finish for painted or plated metal surfaces. I'm trying to create an antique pewter look on metal. Someone recommended Black Zinc plating then brushing down the black phosphate with #0000 steel wool ⇦ on eBay or Amazon [affil links] . I'm concerned about future oxidation and thought that clearing the item with a durable, flat or satin clear urethane finish would prevent future oxidation of the brushed down black zinc.
