Cyanide copper brighteners

2003

Hello...

I am a new electroplater. Also I am a chemist. So I need some information about cyanide copper brighteners. What do I use(which chemicals) for more bright plating ? Please, don't say me: "choose what do you want". I LOOK FORWARD YOUR ANSWERS.

Sincerely...

Alaattin Tuna

First of two simultaneous responses --

Past history of brightening cyanide copper deposits includes the use of tartrates (Rochelle Salts) as well as the additions of selenium and arsenic compounds. There are also a variety of proprietary materials available that use organic compounds or a combination of metallic and organic compounds

Second of two simultaneous responses --

Hi, Alaattin. Safranek's "The Properties of Electrodeposited Metals and Alloys".

recognizes not only Rochelle Salts, but a proprietary selenium-based material which acts as a brightener when applied with periodic reverse current. It does not recognize any other brighteners for cyanide copper baths.
