FINISH P513C TYPE 1 PER MIL-F-14072

Q. Our company is currently being asked to quote and build a hub handle spec'd for military usage on an older model antenna which, in the drawing a FINISH MIL SPEC is called out. We have yet to find any useful information regarding this particular spec and seek assistance.

The spec is as follows:

FINISH P513C TYPE 1 PER MIL-F-14072

Our drawing for this part is in excess of 20 years old and we have been told by our finishing partners that this MIL SPEC is obsolete as well as far as their information goes.

Any assistance will be appreciated.

Thank you,

A. Finish 513C TYPE I per MIL-F-14072 is 2 steps: 1) Pretreatment of the aluminum substrate per DOD-P-15328, 2) Application of Primer TT-P-1757 [on DLA] *. DOD-P-15328 describes a wash primer containing phosphoric acid and organic resin, packaged separately and thoroughly mixed

* a one-component, alkyl primer. Alternate primers where lead or chromate pigments are prohibited are MIL-P-53022, MIL-DTL-53030 [on DLA] or MIL-P-85582 [MIL-PRF-85582 [from DLA] ]. Also, primer MIL-P-53084 (lead and chromate free) which is applied by electrocoating may be used (per paragraph 3.9.5) For low IR reflectance, use MIL-P-23377 [MIL-PRF-23377 [on DLA]], Type II.

Paints that have been reformulated to reduce organic solvent content use PRF instead of P in the specification, e.g., MIL-PRF-23377. Performance requirements equal or exceed those of the P version, but you may still need customer approval to substitute.

You can obtain specifications from the DoD's ASSIST site http://assist2.daps.dla.mil/quicksearch/

Note: MIL-F-14072 has active status, DOD-P-15328 was canceled but DOD-P-15328D (Metric) is active, as is TT-P-1757 [on DLA] B and all of the paints although some in newer PRF versions. Obtain the QPL (qualified products list) for a paint by entering just the number in the specification into the document ID Number space on the Search form. E.g., enter 53022 to obtain QPL-53022 for paint MIL-P-53022.

A. Did a quick search. letter7630 references a website: http://assist.daps.mil/ Click on quick search, enter 14072 in the document number, and up pops revision D. (Didn't actually view the document - 56 pages, even in .pdf format, will take some time to download...but its there.)
